8=10: Interview Russia
8=10 is a team of second year Central Saint Martins BA Fashion students who have collaborated to produce an upcycled capsule collection, entitled, aptly, ”Fuck’em”. The students used wasted materials, stock, remnants and off-cuts in a bid to promote sustainability within fashion and draw attention in to current global issues, namely; human rights, animal cruelty and child labour. The students have made exceptional use of the upcycling technique, successfully avoiding the dreaded patchwork look that makes my blood run cold. The collection is quite brilliant.
Photographer Nikolay Biryukov used the work of 8=10 for the June/July issue of Interview Russia in a vibrant, energetic, colourful spread. Styled by Olga Kuryshchuk, the piece is a soft, yet successful jibe at our capitalist society. I think it works because its Russian… I’m not entirely sure it would be so clever, nor carry the same political and social significance in a UK publication. Politics aside, the spread is good.
Coffee, anyone?
